Seth Rogan and The Lonely Island Confirm Production of Fyre Festival Parody Film – EDM.com
If you were to describe the Fyre Festival saga to someone who’s never heard of it, they might be inclined to believe that you were describing the plot of another classic Seth Rogen stoner comedy. While speaking with The Daily Beast, Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island confirmed that such a film is still in the works.
“I don’t want to divulge all the details but we’re figuring it out right now,” said Taccone. “You’ve seen the docs, right? It’s crazy. This is something that Akiva and Seth cooked up, and we’re figuring it all out right now.”
Almost two years ago, when the events of Fyre Festival unfolded, both Rogen and The Lonely Island (a sketch comedy group consisting of Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg, and Taccone) tweeted that they were actually working on a movie with a premise similar to the real-life music festival disaster. The tweets might lead one to believe that the Rogen and Lonely Island-led movie was independent from the Fyre Festival saga, although, the interview seemingly confirms the plot will revolve around Fyre Festival.
This news follows the release of two massively popular documentaries released on Netflix and Hulu which spawned dozens of memes, pizza specials, tales of Blink-182 witchcraft, and even a LARP in Detroit.
Before Saturday Night Live made Andy Samberg a household name, he, Taccone and Schaffer amassed a cult following with comedy sketches uploaded to The Lonely Island’s YouTube channel. Following his success, he brought his two collaborators along with him into the spotlight, teaming up with them on films like Hot Rod and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.
